Sky Centre Station Structure - Austria

    Project Overview

Project was made as a part of the sky centre in Austria. The lower area was built in concrete, while the upper part combined steel and CLT. High forces caused by the gondolas were taken into account to avoid structural failure and excessive deformations. Bracings ensure the vertical and horizontal stability of the steel structure, while the column-end joints were designed as hinged.

    Project Challenge

For this task we needed to analyse various types of materials and loading: high wind loads, high snow loads and loads from the gondolas.

    Structural Modelling and Load Assessment

Arcus Engineering developed a finite element model of the steel, concrete and timber structure and evaluated its behaviour under the required load combinations.

    The analysis considered:

    • self-weight and permanent actions
    • imposed loads (dynamic from gondola and people usage)
    • relevant horizontal actions (wind and seismic loading)
    • global stability
    • internal forces and deformations

    Arcus Engineering Deliverables

    • Finite element structural model
    • Analysis of operational load combinations
    • Dynamic load assessment
    • Global stability verification
    • Engineering calculation documentation
