Sky Centre Pedestrian Bridge - Austria

    Project Overview

Arcus Engineering supported the structural development of a pedestrian bridge built as part of a sky centre in Austria. Rigid connections and bracing give global stability to the structure, and as part of the calculation, vibration behaviour was checked to ensure comfort for pedestrians using the bridge.

    Project Challenge

In this project we needed to ensure that the structure would be comfortable for pedestrian use, which meant the vibration behaviour of the bridge had to be assessed as part of the structural verification.

    Structural Modelling and Load Assessment

Arcus Engineering developed a finite element model of the steel structure and evaluated its behaviour under the required load combinations.

    The analysis considered:

    • self-weight and permanent actions
    • imposed loads
    • relevant horizontal actions
    • global stability
    • internal forces and deformations

    Arcus Engineering Deliverables

    • Finite element structural model
    • Analysis of operational load combinations
    • Vibration calculation
    • Global stability verification
    • Engineering calculation documentation

    Project Highlights

    • high wind loads
    • vibration calculation for pedestrian comfort
    • rigid connections and bracing for global stability
