Recreational Park and 135 m Zipline - Vossemeren, Belgium
Arcus Engineering supported the structural development of a recreational park in Vossemeren, Belgium, consisting of slender steel tower structures connected by a 135 m zipline. The project required accurate representation of tower stiffness, connection behaviour and foundation support conditions to establish realistic structural behaviour under the relevant design loads.
The recreational structure consisted of slender steel columns fixed at foundation level and connected at the top.
Because the tower's global stability depended partly on the rotational behaviour of the beam-to-column joints, modelling every connection as either fully rigid or fully pinned would not have represented the actual structural response accurately.
The second tower also used prestressed cable anchorage, introducing additional requirements related to cable forces, support behaviour and structural stability.
Arcus Engineering developed a numerical structural model of the tower system and evaluated the stiffness of the semi-rigid beam-to-column connections.
The calculated joint stiffness was incorporated into the global analysis model, allowing the structural response to reflect the actual behaviour of the connections more closely.
The engineering assessment also considered:
In addition to the structural and connection analyses, Arcus Engineering prepared the required workshop documentation and reinforcement drawings.
The coordinated documentation supported the transition from structural verification to fabrication and foundation execution.
Arcus Engineering provides structural analysis, connection design and technical documentation for zipline towers, recreational structures, viewing platforms and other non-standard steel systems. Send us your available design documentation and project requirements for an initial review.
